Local Information
Alguena is located in the extreme West of Medio Vinalopo, on the border of the old Kingdom of Murcia. The district occupies a high plateau with mid altitudes around 600 m (2000 ft), hilly to the North because of the Reclot mountain range. The district includes the city population center as well as the village of La Solana at 3 km (2 miles) from the town. The population was linked to the municipality of Pinoso until 1934, although it previously already had an independent parish.
Alguena is a traditionally Spanish town, with bars, restaurants, chemists, petrol station and two supermarkets. It also has a lively Sunday market, selling everything from clothes to household items and fish and vegetables

Situated under the marble mines from which comes the wealth of the region, Alguena is becoming very popular with the ex pat community seeking a relaxed lifestyle.
